Letters from Alaska: The Inside to the Outside presents a unique view of the Last Frontier. The reader is treated to a tour of Alaska with the author, Bill Hauser, as he mixes his first-hand, personal experiences with entertaining bits of Alaskana and vivid word pictures. Travel vicariously with him to all parts of the state as he lives, works, and recreates for nearly three decades.
Empathize with his tribulations and join in his elations through his on-the-spot observations while you go bear watching, hunting for Dall sheep, moose and caribou, and fishing for king salmon, halibut, and Dolly Varden. Bill Hauser grew up in Wisconsin where he quickly developed a love of nature and all sorts of outdoor activities. This love of nature led to inquiries and a desire to learn which was woven throughout his college years, graduate school, and a career in the natural sciences and fisheries. After several years and different jobs, he arrived in Alaska in 1980 to work for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. He had the good fortune to experience Alaska through both his work assignments and personal activities. Bill writes a column, FISH TALK, about fish biology for the monthly newsletter of the Alaska Fly Fishers. Bill and his wife, Karel, live in Anchorage where they raised their children, Bill and Donna.
